About Rick and Wendy
Rick and Wendy were teaching English in Hong Kong as a second language. It was time to retire. They had a good look around and chose to move to the tropical islands of Vanuatu, (New Hebredes) in the far North West corner of the South Pacific. (Rick had workded for Qantas for 25 years for Qantas and was happy to finally settle on a quiet tropical island.)
However, instead of retiring, Rick and Wendy spent two years turning a run-down property into a successful and unique boutique holiday resort, Seachange Lodge. A real Home Away From Home with lots of special ambience. Absolute top value for your money.
The problem was that although Vanuatu was voted the Happiest Country on Earth in 2006, but there was no free education. Just over 50% of the children manage to get to year 6. About 18% got to high school, while 26$ never go to school at all.
These statistics have changed little since the survey in 1999. Many of the children's parents cannot read or write. These kids have no way of fulfilling their dreams. Many of them do not want to spend the rest of their life just hanging around the village with nothing to do and no way to earn an income.
Outer Island Community Needs Help

Rick and Wendy came up with the idea of forming YouMe Support Foundation in order to assist these communities and help some great kids get an education. It was a long haul getting government minsters on side and working their way through all the red tape of beauraucy. |
When you book at Seachange Lodge and purchase an accommodation voucher, you will be helping some really great kids. You can get to meet some of them when you come to Vanautu.
Education Grants
All money from the Discount Accommodation Vouchers goes into YouMe Support Foundation, a registered charity, under the control of the Board Directors and an international accounting firm. High achieving students are chosen to receive a non-repayable high school education grant.

We are happy to announce our first student recieved a grant in January 2009. Maimona was top of her class but had no way of going to high school. Her only brother gets what money is available for education, while her oldest sister remains at home, with no education, no qualifications and no prospect of a job. Maimona's smile was worth a million dollars when she was told she would be getting the opportunity to fulfill her dreams and continue her education. |
